A few years ago Bijenkorf Amsterdam started with her premium experience strategy. This year the Bijenkorf Utrecht is under construction to get ready for this new shopping experience. The kick off has been the men’s department. Beersnielsen was responsible for the Lighting Design, from the concept design to finetuning the amount of light just before the completion. The lighting design is the unifying element between different store departments with each their different atmospheres.The result is a crisp and balanced lighting design which emphasizes the products. The visitor will experience a luxurious and inspiring shopping environment.
Not only the interior of Bijenkorf Utrecht will be refurbished, the facade also has been transformed. During the design process we faced several challenges, such as the impossibility to attach luminaires at the outside at the glass facade. Placing luminaires at the insides was also problematic, because they should fit in with the lighting plan for the shopping floors and shop windows. In close cooperation with the supplier we developed a luminaire that fitted seamlessly in the interior lighting system. The illumination of the facade also contains LED-strips at floor height. These LED-strips provide an extra accent. The towers at the corners will be provided with big banners, which will be illuminated with fluorescent tubes.
During 2017 other departments of the Bijenkorf Utrecht are under construction as well. Beersnielsen will be working on the technical execution of these floors, but will also work hard on the Bijenkorf Rotterdam, which will be the next store to be refurbished.
