‘Masterpieces’ at the Maritiem Museum in Rotterdam is a permanent exhibition showing six centuries of maritime history through twenty-five unique objects. The design of the exhibition is focused on highlighting all the masterpieces. Beersnielsen was responsible for the lighting design, that enhances this feeling by creating a dramatic atmosphere. The objects are literally placed in the spotlight. To achieve higher contrasts, the existing LED lighting – that was purchased only 5 years ago – had to be modified as it could only produce wide beam angles. Beersnielsen found a solution by using new narrow beam reflectors that fitted exactly into the fixture. This made it possible to create narrow beams with the existing lighting system at low cost. Offering the museum a solution to create accent lighting, not only for this exhibition but also for the future exhibitions.
