Dam Square in Amsterdam is one of the most famous squares in the Netherlands. This square is surrounded by buildings in very different styles and has two prominent objects, the National Monument and the Palace. In the evening the surrounding facades are connected by a so-called veil of light. All buildings are softly illuminated from the existing masts on the square, subtly emphasizing characteristic elements in de facade. The two main characters, the Monument and the Palace, are, as it were, embraced by these buildings and are themselves more prominently lit. On the one hand due to higher light levels and on the other hand because these objects are lit in more detailed.
The first phase of the Dam lighting plan has been completed and the Monument and the facades surrounding the statue will be illuminated in the near future.
The Palace is currently being renovated, when this is completed the remaining three facades and the inner part of the tempietto on the roof will be lit.
The lighting plan for the monument was created by Hans Wolff and Koen Smits.
De Dam in Amsterdam is één van meest bekende pleinen in Nederland. Dit plein wordt omsloten door gebouwen in zeer verschillende stijlen en heeft twee prominente objecten, het Nationaal Monument en het Paleis. In het avondbeeld worden de gevels aan elkaar verbonden middels een lichtsluier. Alle gebouwen worden zacht aangelicht vanaf de bestaande masten op het plein, daarbij worden kenmerkende gevelelementen subtiel benadrukt. De twee hoofdrolspelers, het Monument en het Paleis worden als het ware omarmd door deze gebouwen en staan zelf meer prominent in het licht. Enerzijds doordat het lichtniveau hoger is en anderzijds omdat deze objecten meer gedetailleerd zijn uitgelicht.
De eerste fase van het lichtplan Dam is gerealiseerd, op korte termijn zal het Monument worden belicht en de gevels rondom het beeld.
Momenteel wordt het Paleis gerenoveerd, wanneer dit klaar is wordt het lichtplan verder uitgerold rondom het Paleis.
