The famous premium department store ‘De Bijenkorf’ in Amsterdam started renewing her shop in the context of their ‘premium experience strategy’. Beersnielsen, in cooperation with Rogier van der Heide, has translated De Bijenkorf’s mission into a lighting design which helps to create a continuous and consistent customer journey, emphasizes the unique character of the Amsterdam store building and is sustainable, reliable and easy to maintain. The lighting design is also the unifying element between different store departments with each their different atmospheres.
The result is a crisp and balanced lighting design that makes the ground floor a special and joyful place to visit. Transparency in the architectural design guarantees a view from one site of the shop to another, which makes the building and its shop windows also interesting at night. In the new lighting design the focus is on the product. The product is so to say ‘the hero’. Although the ground floor houses many shops in shop, the visitor will experience a luxurious serenity.
